The Colnago Impact is a flat bar road bike that zips around with style. It can be your townie, your coffee cruiser, your commuter, or even your endurance ride. No matter the role, it excels. Where it excels is up to you.
This is a fast road bike. Flat bars don’t change it. The position the bike puts you in is faster than a mountain bike, but not as aggressive as a WorldTour race bike. Colnago wanted to get the weight balance right for flat bars, and adjusted the geometry accordingly. What helps make the bike fast is the frame. Hydroformed 6000-series aluminum is used for all the frame tubes. The main tubes utilize Colnago’s classic star shape, which is stiffer than a round tube, and stiffer in all directions, unlike ovalized tubes. The sloping top tube helps make the bike feel small and maneuverable underneath you, great for darting through traffic. The bowed seatstays help absorb road vibrations and add comfort to the ride. Colnago opted for disc brakes on the Impact. The reasoning was simple. They wanted to give you the option to run whatever 700c tire width makes you most comfortable, from a thin 22mm road slick to a 44mm wide knobby. Yes, this can be taken off road, even onto mtb trails. The brake mounts have been positioned for 160mm rotors. And thanks to smart design, both the fork and the vertical dropouts are designed for quick releases. The fork is made of carbon-fiber for stiffness, light weight, and vibration damping. To counter the heat that discs can generate, there’s a healthy amount of aluminum under the carbon at the brake mount. It functions as a heat sink. Colnago also opted for interesting choices at the seat tube. The seat post is 31.6mm, with the added diameter meaning reduced overall weight-they knew the tires and frame tubes would be doing most of the damping. The bottom bracket is English-threaded for ease of service and sourcing of parts.
